Police said the suspect drove to another location after the shooting and surrendered to officers without incident.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was arrested and charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting in northeast Columbus Sunday morning, according to police.

Officers were called to the 3300 block of East 5th Avenue, near the John Glenn Columbus International Airport, around 5:50 a.m. on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 29-year-old Treh East suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

East was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. They were later pronounced dead at 6:21 a.m. Their identity has not yet been released.

The Columbus Division of Police identified the suspect on Sunday afternoon as 30-year-old Awil Mohamed.

According to an affidavit, detectives interviewed several witnesses and determined that East was fighting with Mohamed before the shooting occurred. Mohamed was identified from a single photograph.
