Coroner identifies 44-year-old man killed in east Columbus shooting

The shooting victim was identified as 44-year-old Robert Smith.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Franklin County Coroner's Office identified the person who was shot and killed in east Columbus Saturday morning as a 44-year-old man. 

Officers were called to the 2900 block of Dana Drive, located just north of East Broad Street, shortly before 1:45 a.m. on a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Robert Smith suffering from a gunshot wound. A dispatcher for the city’s public safety department told 10TV he was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:59 a.m.

Police said Smith was sitting in a van that was parked in a common parking lot of an apartment complex when he was shot. After the shooting, witnesses stated the suspect left eastbound on Dana Drive to North Gould Road.

Residents with cameras inside the area outlined below are asked to review footage taken around the time of the shooting.
