Police: Person severely injured in hit-and-run near downtown Columbus

As the victim was walking or standing within the travel lanes, a vehicle approached from the south, striking the victim and continuing northbound on I-71.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person was severely injured during a hit-and-run near downtown early Sunday morning, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

Police said an adult was standing within the travel lanes of Interstate 71 northbound, just north of Interstate 670 at approximately 2:25 a.m. That person was in a crash beforehand, and had driven their vehicle to this location where the car became disabled along the concrete center divider.

As the victim was walking or standing within the travel lanes, a vehicle approached from the south, striking the victim and continuing northbound on I-71 without stopping.

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center and is currently listed in critical condition. 

The incident remains under investigation.
