Pilot who flew in WWII celebrates 100th birthday by flying plane

Charles Allen flew in 14 missions in World War II and continued flying in Vietnam too.

A Delaware County man celebrated his 100th birthday Wednesday with something he hasn't done since he was half that age: Flying an airplane.

Charles Allen flew in 14 missions in World War II and continued flying in Vietnam too.

"Last time I flew as a pilot in charge of the plane was in 1969," he said.

Nearly 50 years later, he wanted to fly again for his big birthday.

Allen got to even pilot the plane over his home at Willowbrook Retirement home. His friends there helped organize the flight.
