Pickerington pool to implement policy changes, increase police presence after issues reported by staff

The city says there is zero tolerance for violations of the posted rules.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The city of Pickerington announced Thursday that its community pool will be making policy changes to help eliminate concerns that have arisen over the past week.

The city said that effective June 7, they are implementing changes that look to solve issues such as fighting, aggression toward other patrons and profanity. They say these changes "will not only better protect patrons, but our pool staff and lifeguards."

Day passes will only be available for purchase to adults 21 and older and proof of residency within the Pickerington Local School District is required. Each day pass buyer can purchase two additional passes, but that person must stay at the pool with the guests the entire time.

Season pass holders can also purchase two additional day passes for guests.

There will be an increased police presence at the pool and officers will be patrolling the pool deck more frequently.

The city says there is zero tolerance for violations of the posted rules.

"The safety of our pool staff, season pass holders and guests will always be our top priority and we feel these changes are necessary in response to recent behavior-related incidents," the city said in a Facebook post.

The Pickerington Police Department has not yet provided a statement on the policy changes.
