Pickerington man arrested for allegedly making threats to Ohio University students

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — A Pickerington man was indicted by a grand jury on Monday for allegedly making threats to students at Ohio University and possessing firearms illegally.

Michael Rinthalukay, 27, was charged with having weapons while under disability, making terrorist threats and inducing panic. He is also banned from all OU campuses.

The Athens County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said Rinthalukay is accused of possessing an AR-15 while being prohibited from possessing firearms by Ohio law.

Rinthalukay is also accused of using social media to make threats to several groups of students at Ohio University. His Instagram page included several videos of himself shooting an assortment of firearms, according to the prosecutor.

Rinthakulay was taken into custody on Sept. 3 and is currently being held at the Franklin County Corrections Center. He will soon be transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail following a hearing.
