Police: 2-year-old injured in drive-by shooting in southeast Columbus

In an update Sunday morning, police said the 2-year-old was expected to survive his injuries.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 2-year-old boy was injured during a drive-by shooting in southeast Columbus Saturday night, according to police.

According to Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert, police received a ShotSpotter alert just after 10:10 p.m. in the 900 block of Ellsworth Avenue, with multiple gunshots being detected, possibly from a moving shooter. Less than a minute later, dispatchers received a 911 call saying a 2-year-old had been shot inside a home.

When officers arrived, they found the 2-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. In an update Sunday morning, police said the boy was shot in the torso. 

The boy was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition. His condition was later upgraded to "stable," and police say he is expected to survive his injuries.

It remains unclear what led up to the shooting, and police did not immediately provide suspect information.
