The person was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, fire officials said.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person is seriously injured after being hit by a train on the city's north side Tuesday afternoon, according to the Columbus Division of Fire.

Firefighters were called to the 2800 block of Silver Drive near North Linden just after 2 p.m. on a report of a person struck by a train.

The person was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, fire officials said.

The Columbus Division of Police is investigating.

CSX, the company that the train belonged to, released a statement on the incident, saying in part:

"There were no injuries to the crew of the train. CSX is grateful for the swift response by the local first responders. This is an unfortunate reminder of the dangers of trespassing on railroad property. "
