Passenger killed in crash after Gahanna police pursuit; suspect in custody

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — Police say a passenger has died after a police pursuit resulted in a crash in Gahanna on Wednesday evening.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Clark State Road and Headley Road, according to Gahanna police.

Police said the incident begin when officers attempted to stop and take 38-year-old Christopher McCleese II into custody in the area of Park Drive.

McCleese was wanted for felonious assault stemming from a domestic incident on Jan. 3.

Police pursued McCleese for four minutes before the vehicle crashed into a tree. A female passenger, identified as 44-year-old Shannon Currier, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Currier was the alleged victim in the Jan. 3 domestic violence incident involving McCleese, according to police.

McCleese fled on foot from the crash site but was captured a short time later. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Once released, McCleese will be taken to the Franklin County Jail.
