GAHANNA, Ohio — A beloved Gahanna business announced that it will be temporarily shutting its doors starting next month as its owner deals with ongoing health concerns.
Pam's Market Popcorn and Windy City Eats, located at 955 East Johnstown Rd., will have its final day on Saturday, June 22. Owner Pam Tylka will be taking a medical hiatus and decided to close her shop due to her health concerns, including further medical attention for cancer.
"With a heart full of mixed emotions I’m popping in to share some important news. As many of you might know, aside from my adventures in popcorn, I've been navigating a journey with cancer. Recently, some new concerns have emerged that require additional tests, and I'm staying optimistic, hoping for the best," she shared in Facebook post.
Tylka wants to reassure customers that this pause is not permanent and she has plans to relaunch in a new location when her health permits.
"I'm carefully storing all my equipment and hope to pop up again in a new location—hopefully in New Albany or Gahanna when the time is right," she posted. "So keep your tins ready for the next chapter!"
She opened the brick-and-mortar shop in 2017 after becoming a fixture in the North Market since 2005.
The store specializes in specialty popcorn flavors including S'mores, Lavender, Painful Pepper Purgatory and Rory's Rainbow.
The store also features a selection of authentic Chicago-style dishes, sweets, local syrups, specialty salsas and gemstones.
