LUCASVILLE, Ohio -- Authorities are investigating the stabbing of a corrections officer in southern Ohio by an inmate.
The assault happened at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, Ohio.
Both the officer and the inmate were transported to a local hospital, according to officials.
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction identified the officer as Matthew Mathias. He underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon and is recovering.
Officials did not identify the inmate or provide an update on their condition.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol are conducting the investigation.
