OSHP: 1 killed in Vinton County crash

VINTON COUNTY, Ohio — One person has died following a crash in Vinton County Thursday night, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 11:13 p.m. on state Route 677 near milepost three in Elk Township. 

Troopers said 25-year-old Andrew Pettit, of Chillicothe, was traveling south on Route 377 when he drove off the right side of the road and struck an embankment. The road was closed for one hour as the crash was investigated.

Pettit was transported to Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center in Columbus where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation. The McArthur Fire Department, MedFlight, Vinton County EMS and the Vinton County Sheriff's Department assisted on scene.
