The Olentangy Local School District announced the first date of classes has been moved to August 31 rather than August 20.

In a letter posted on the district's website, they announced the change would allow for the arrival of safety equipment for teachers and staff.

The district also laid out plans based on the state's new alert system for determining high-risk counties for COVID-19.

If Delaware County is under a Level 1 or 2, schools will operate on a daily attendance model with students attending five days a week. This is the model the district plans to use when it opens August 31.

If the county is at Level 3, they will move to a hybrid attendance model with 50% of students in schools each day and 50% remote from home.

If Delaware County hits Level 4, all students would move to virtual learning for the school week.

The district also offers families the option to use distance learning regardless of the risk level.
