LEWIS CENTER, Ohio — The principal of Olentangy Orange High School resumed her duties on Tuesday after being placed on administrative leave.
Principal Monica Asher was placed on leave last week as the district investigated comments she had written in an internal newsletter regarding the 2024 election, according to Olentangy Local School District Superintendent Todd Meyer.
"I can’t write a message that pretends like the election didn’t happen; especially when so many of you are struggling with how to move forward. I know you are struggling with how to move forward with your students who are afraid, but also how to move forward with colleagues that don’t share your views. This week, I saw pain, uncertainty, and division. I have to be honest, I am not entirely sure how to tell you how to move forward," Asher wrote in part in the newsletter.
In a new statement on Tuesday, the district confirmed that the investigation was completed. Leaders say Asher apologized and was disciplined for the action, but the district did not specify what the punishment was.
“While Ms. Asher violated our policies, through our investigation she fully understands and acknowledges the negative impact of her message. One of our district values is we can always get better, and as we teach our students, we must take responsibility and learn from our mistakes,” the district said in part.
Asher has been the principal of Olentangy Orange since 2022.
