COLUMBUS, Ohio — A music educator in the Olentangy Local School District has become a GRAMMY finalist for a second time.
The Recording Academy has recognized Shanahan Middle School vocal music teacher Katie Silcott as a top 10 finalist for the Music Educator Award to be given out at the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards. This is the second time that Silcott has received this recognition after first making it to the final round of the awards held in 2022.
"It is the greatest honor to teach my students for multiple years in a row during their time in middle school," Silcott told 10TV after this year's nomination was announced. "I remember the day I found out about the finals the first time around; I was finishing a recruitment tour for 5th graders at the neighboring elementary schools. Now those 5th graders are my 8th graders!"
Silcott was in class with those students when the 2025 finalists were announced.
"There were lots of cheers and tears!" she said. " These students are the precious people who truly help me learn what it takes to challenge them as musicians, remain calm as they workshop all sorts of personalities, and find their values as human beings. That is the ultimate joy of teaching middle school."
The 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards will air on Feb. 2, 2025 on 10TV.
