Police: Man in custody after admitting to shooting another man near downtown Columbus

Officers were called to the 800 block of East Fulton Street near Interstate 70 around 4 a.m. on a report of someone firing shots outside of a home.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was critically injured in a shooting in the Olde Towne East neighborhood early Wednesday morning, according to the Columbus Division of Police. Another man was arrested in connection to the incident.

Officers were called to the 800 block of East Fulton Street near Interstate 70 around 4 a.m. on a report of someone firing shots outside of a home. Police said less than a minute later, another caller told dispatchers that someone was shot.

Police arrived at the home and found a man who was shot. He was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Police said his condition improved and was described as stable.

Officers arrested a man, 67-year-old Joe Young, at the scene who admitted to shooting the victim, police said. He is charged with felonious assault. Officers also recovered two firearms at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are not known at this time.
