SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — A day after Springfield City Hall and other Clark County buildings were evacuated due to a bomb threat, two elementary schools were evacuated and a middle school was closed.
The Springfield City School District sent a release Friday saying that Perrin Woods and Snowhill Elementary students were evacuated and taken to an alternate district location. Additionally, Roosevelt Middle School was closed before the beginning of the school day.
The evacuations and closure resulted from information the district received from the police department.
According to the district, students at the elementary school will be dismissed to their parents in a controlled release.
The district said no additional threats were made to other buildings in the district.
Multiple city buildings were sent a threat via email on Thursday, prompting evacuations and dismissals. The FBI was called in to help with the investigation.
The city of Springfield has received national attention since Monday when the city was maliciously distorted by false rumors that Haitian immigrants are eating their neighbors' pets. The claims were brought up by former President Donald Trump during Tuesday's debate.
Officials in Springfield have tried to tamp down the misinformation by saying there have been no credible or detailed reports of any pets being abducted or eaten. State leaders are trying to help address some of the real challenges facing the city.
Gov. Mike DeWine said Tuesday he would add more law enforcement and health care resources to an aid package the state has already provided to Springfield.
