COLUMBUS, Ohio — Snow Trails in Mansfield is getting ready for the upcoming ski and snowboarding season.
The ski resort, located at 3100 Possum Run Road, has started its snowmaking process. When making snow, resorts look at temperatures, humidity and wind speed.
According to Snow Trails’ website, the resort looks for a “wet bulb temperature, which is a calculation of ambient temperature around 29 degrees Fahrenheit or below and relative humidity of 60% or below, to produce Snow Trails Quality Snow Standard.”
Snow Trails typically prepares to open in mid-December but could open earlier if prime weather conditions hold out.
"With Mother Nature providing us ideal snowmaking temps early Friday, our crew is thankful to have our first snowmaking campaign of the season working round-the-clock and keeping our massive Snowmaking System with Cooling Tower producing anytime temps are forecasted below 29F," said Nate Wolleson, marketing manager at Snow Trails.
This year, it added nine new snowmakers to its fleet and made upgrades to the snowmaking wire and pipe system on the Mt. Mansfield trail.
You can watch the snowmaking process live via Snow Trails’ live cameras.
The resort offers skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Those who have never skied or snowboarded can sign up for lessons on the website.
Snow Trails is also introducing several new features this year, including a new rope tow, LED lighting upgrades, a remodel to Lucky's cafeteria and facility and parking lot improvements.
