COLUMBUS, Ohio — WBNS-10TV was honored with an Edward R. Murrow award for its coverage of the deadly bus crash that happened last November on Interstate 70.
The awards are given out annually by the Radio Television Digital News Association. 10TV was given Region 7 Large Market Television's award for breaking news coverage.
RTDNA honors outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards each year. The Murrow Awards are among the most prestigious in news and recognize local and national news stories that "uphold the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrate technical expertise and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community."
The deadly bus crash happened on Nov. 14, 2023. Five vehicles were involved, including a Pioneer Trails charter bus that was transporting students and chaperones from the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District. There were a total of 57 people aboard the bus. Two commercial vehicles and two passenger vehicles were also involved.
Six people died, including three students, and 18 others were injured.
10TV was there on the scene after it happened, communicating with families, authorities and witnesses to inform the public – professionally and respectfully – of what happened.
