CLEVELAND — The suspect in the fatal shooting of a northeast Ohio police officer was found dead in a residence after an hours-long standoff with law enforcement Sunday afternoon, according to 10TV's sister station WKYC.
A scene began developing at an apartment complex in Shaker Heights just after 1:30 p.m., WKYC reports. Then around 2:10 p.m., SWAT officers were seen putting on helmets and shields and entering the complex.
According to a report, the person inside the apartment was 24-year-old Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, the suspect in the fatal shooting of Euclid police officer Jacob Derbin.
In a Sunday evening press conference, Euclid police along with U.S. Marshals confirmed that Vaughn was found dead inside a residence at the apartment complex. It is not known at this time how Vaughn was killed.
Citing a statement from the Euclid Police Department, multiple news outlets said Derbin was shot Saturday night after allegedly being ambushed by Vaughn while responding to a disturbance in the town of Euclid, a suburb of Cleveland.
