Coroner identifies 3 people, including 9-year-old boy, killed in crashes on Ohio Turnpike

The Fulton County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the fourth person killed.

TOLEDO, Ohio — An Ohio coroner identified three of the four people who were killed in separate crashes along the Ohio Turnpike on Thursday. One of the crash victims was a 9-year-old boy.

The Lucas County Coroner’s Office identified the people killed as:

  • 20-year-old Aija Vukovic, of Utica, New York
  • 9-year-old Dawa Norbu, of Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • 46-year-old Tenzin Drukgyal, of Minneapolis, Minnesota 

The crashes happened between state Route 108 and state Route 2, which was closed in both directions for several hours.

The first crash happened around 5:35 a.m. The Ohio State Highway Patrol told 10TV’s sister station WTOL that four commercial vehicles and one passenger vehicle crashed in Swanton Township. One person was killed and three others were taken to hospitals in Toledo.

The extent of their injuries is unknown.

A second crash happened just about 20 minutes later in Fulton Township. Two commercial vehicles, one of which was hauling sulfuric acid, were involved in a crash with one passenger vehicle.

According to OSHP, there was a 150-foot perimeter placed around the scene as a precaution. Two people died in this crash with multiple other injuries reported.

At 6:25 a.m., one person died in a crash involving two commercial vehicles and three passenger vehicles on the Ohio Turnpike in Swanton Township. Multiple others were reportedly injured.

OSHP did not say which victims died in what crash. The Fulton County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the fourth person killed.

Thirteen vehicles in total were involved in the crashes, WTOL reported.
