A teen missing since witnessing his father’s 2017 shooting death has been located in southwest Ohio, Dayton CBS affiliate WHIO reports.
Jacob Caldwell disappeared two days after he and two of his younger brothers witnessed the shooting death of their father, Robert Caldwell, in a Riverside parking lot in August 2017.
WHIO reports investigators received several tips that helped police locate Jacob after donated digital billboards were placed in multiple locations in the Dayton-area. He was found safe Monday night after a search warrant at a home in Sugarcreek Twp. near Dayton.
Police found Jacob at the home in what police described as a sleeping area in the basement. However, they do not believe Jacob was being held captive inside the house. Police said it appears he was free to move around the house but was just not allowed to go outside.
Since Jacob’s disappearance, family members and law enforcement agencies have issued public pleas and rewards for information on his whereabouts.
Since Robert’s murder, six people, including his ex-wife have been indicted on charges connected to the shooting death.
