BELPRE, Ohio — A West Virginia man who has been out of work for several years as he battles cancer won more than $100,000 in the Ohio Lottery.

Melvin Stubbs III won $140,001 after winning the Rolling Cash 5 on Monday. He will take home $100,800 after state and federal taxes, totaling 28%.

"I've been sick, so I had cancer. I think it is a blessing to win," Stubbs said.

On the day of the drawing, Stubbs said he was spending time with his son and decided to go purchase a ticket.

“I just went over the bridge to play my numbers like normal. Then when I checked at night, I seen I won,” he said.

Matching all five numbers made him feel so happy that he wasn't able to sleep on the night he won. He plans on using the money to help his family.

“I'm gonna try to save it up and help my wife because I hadn't been able to work a few years,” Stubbs said.

Stubbs bought the ticket from Peoples News & Book Mart at 412 Washington Blvd. in Belpre.

Rolling Cash 5 is a daily draw game with drawings held seven days a week at 7:05 p.m.
