DeWine orders flags be flown half-staffed in remembrance of Maine shooting victims

Officials say at least 18 people are dead after a man opened fire at a restaurant and a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered that United States and Ohio flags at all public buildings and grounds throughout the state be flown at half-staff in remembrance of the shooting victims in Lewiston, Maine.

Officials say at least 18 people are dead after a man opened fire at a restaurant and a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine.

The shooting Wednesday night sparked a massive search for a person of interest who is a trained firearms instructor.

A police bulletin identified 40-year-old Robert Card as a person of interest in the attack. He was described as a firearms instructor believed to be in the Army Reserve and assigned to a training facility in Saco, Maine.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills said the state will deploy all available state resources, including grief counselors, to help the affected citizens.

Mills says Card is considered armed and dangerous, and warns people not to approach him.

The flags in Ohio will be flown at half-staff until sunset on Oct. 30.
