Ohio Senator JD Vance responds to rumors he is being considered for Trump's VP candidate

On Tuesday, Trump won New Hampshire's primary, seizing command of the race for the Republican nomination.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — With the candidate pool in the GOP primary down to two, speculation is swirling about who Donald Trump will choose as a vice president candidate this time around.

Many are pointing to Ohio Senator JD Vance due to Vance's strong support for Trump ever since his 2022 Senate bid.

When asked whether he's weighed the option to be Trump's running mate, Vance emphasized that his main goal is to get Trump elected.

"What I've said is I want to help President Trump get elected because I think it's really important he be elected president. I think between the border crisis, the inflation prices, war in seemingly every corner of the world, the Biden administration has been a disaster," Vance said.

Despite the rumors that Vance may be on Trump's short-list for VP, he said right now he's happy where he is in the Senate.

"I think one of the most important ways I can help President Trump but most importantly help the people of Ohio is by being a good senator and that's where I plan to stay for the next few years. We'll see what happens, but I like my job and I'd like to stay in it," Vance said.

On Tuesday, Trump won New Hampshire's primary, seizing command of the race for the Republican nomination and making a November rematch against President Joe Biden feel all the more inevitable.

If he returns to the White House, the former president has promised to enact a hardline immigration agenda that includes stopping migrants from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border and reimposing his first-term travel ban that originally targeted seven Muslim-majority countries.
