NOBLE COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction said Friday evening the air handling system at the Noble Correctional Institution malfunctioned.
ODRC said at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday night, a malfunction created poor air quality in one of the inmate housing units. A total of four staff members showed signs of illness and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Twenty-nine inmates claimed to have symptoms and were also sent to local hospitals.
No one affected experienced life-threatening or serious harm due to the event, ODRC said.
Maintenance staff repaired the system and the air quality in the unit and around the institution was deemed safe by the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department.
ODRC said the institution is back under normal operations.
