DAYTON, Ohio-- A football player for Ohio Dominican University was shot and killed in Dayton Sunday morning.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched to the area of Daleview Avenue and Wampler Avenue for a shots fired call shortly before 1 a.m.
Authorities say 18-year-old Jonte Tinsley was hit in the neck.
CBS affiliate WHIO reported this incident occurred during a Sweet 16 birthday party attended by 80-100 people.
WHIO says Tinsley's brother, JeJuan, drove Jonte from the scene and flagged down a state trooper on the way to help his brother get to a hospital. He died at Grandview Medical Center.
A spokesperson for Ohio Dominican University says Tinsley was going into his sophomore year at the school and was a defensive back on the football team.
Tinsley's mother told WHIO that Jonte, his twin sister and older brother, JeJuan secured two jobs over the summer to buy a car to return to school.
Detectives identified a juvenile as a "very strong person of interest" in this case.
The investigation is still ongoing and is being handled by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
