JACKSON, Ohio — Authorities are asking for the public's help in searching for a woman who escaped from the Jackson County Correctional Facility on Saturday.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says 33-year-old Brittany D. Thompson was in custody on charges including drug trafficking and failure to appear when she broke free of her shackles and ran through the front door of the sheriff's office on Portsmouth Street just before 2 p.m.

Thompson is 5'8", weighs 115 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen at a convenience store on Broadway Street using the store's phone. She was seen wearing a black sports bra and black striped jail-issued pants.

Her last known address is on Keystone Furnace Road in Jackson.

Jackson police are assisting with the search.
