CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio — Five people are dead and one is in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash in Clermont County early Sunday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 1:45 a.m. on state Route 28 at Edenton Pleasant Plain Road in Goshen Township.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Chrysler 300, driven by 25-year-old Mathew Penny, was heading northeast on Route 28 when he hit a Subaru Legacy, driven by 43-year-old Dustin McDole. McDole was heading northwest on Edenton Pleasant Plain Road, attempting to cross Route 28, at the time.

When Penny’s car struck the Subaru, both vehicles then went off the side of the road into a ditch and an embankment, OSHP says.

Penny and McDole were both pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office.

Three other occupants were inside Penny’s vehicle at the time of the crash. Chloe Love, 19, and Dezmen Jernigan, 18, were both pronounced dead on scene. The third passenger was taken to UC Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in McDole’s vehicle, 42-year-old Andrea Iery, was pronounced dead on the scene.
