COLUMBUS, Ohio — The unemployment rate in Ohio was 5% in May and the state saw 278,000 people out of work last month.
Those numbers are an increase from April, which saw an unemployment rate of 4.7%, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
In April 2020, the state saw an unemployment rate of 16.4% and in May 2020 it was 14.9%.
More than 15,800 initial claims were filed with the state for the week ending with June 12.
Recently, ODJFS has flagged a significant percentage of those claims for potential fraud.
