COLUMBUS, Ohio — Crews with Ohio Task Force 1 are returning home after spending nearly three weeks with relief efforts in Florida and North Carolina.
The 82-member search and rescue team was sent to Orlando, Florida on Sept. 24 after Hurricane Helene devastated the state’s Gulf Coast.
A week later, crews were called to North Carolina to assist communities that were isolated because of rain and mudslides. Members worked in several counties to identify damage, check in on residents and search for missing people.
Members were then called back to Florida as they waited for Hurricane Milton to make landfall. After the storm passed, they assisted with search and rescue efforts.
The team began traveling back to Dayton on Sunday. It’s unclear when members will arrive in Ohio.
