LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — Severe weather tore through most of central Ohio Thursday evening, bringing multiple tornadoes and leaving plenty of destruction.
While most people try to stay safe indoors during a storm, others known as "storm chasers," seek out the storm's path to witness it firsthand.
Bobb Yates went out Thursday night on his first "storm chase" in Logan County. He said that every time he would stop to take a picture, the storm would shift, meaning he had to do what he could to keep up with it.
"There were just powerlines all over the roads and wreckage everywhere," Yates said. "I could hear screaming not necessarily of, you know, like trauma, but just the chaos of a storm like that. And there was an overwhelming smell of gas in the air, which is scary."
Yates said he saw a house lying on its side and a few people breaking windows, believing that there may have been someone trapped inside.
The moment of fear for him came when he realized that his family was in the path of the storm.
"Unfortunately that's another first I had to deal with. While I was chasing the storm, I noticed that path was taking it directly to my house," Yates said.
He said it was a "gut-wrenching" feeling and the first thing he did when he got home was hug his family.
