COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the third straight year, Ohio State has won the "Blood Battle" competition against the University of Michigan.
Ahead of The Game each year, the rival schools compete and donate blood for local patients.
The 43rd annual battle began Oct. 23 and ended on Nov. 27.
Ohio State collected 300 pints more than Michigan.
- Ohio State: 1,707
- Michigan: 1,407
More than 3,100 pints of blood were donated between the two schools, which has the potential to save about 9,300 lives.
“I’m so proud of Buckeye Nation for delivering another Blood Battle win," said President Walter "Ted" Carter Jr. "This is who we are as Buckeyes — always ready to step up and help others in our community. I thank each individual who donated or gave their time to this important cause.”
Ohio State previously beat Michigan in the Blood Battle in 2023 by a tally of 1,732 to 1,469 units and in 2022 with a score of 1,630 to 1,533 units collected.
The blood donated in the competition stays local, benefiting patients at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center who are being treated for traumatic injuries, cancer, organ transplants and numerous other diseases.
