The Ohio State University announced plans to partially reopen its campuses for in-person activities for the fall semester and other details for the 2021-2022 school year.
In an email sent to the Ohio State community, President Kristina Johnson says they will be bringing back a fall and spring break.
This year, the university canceled spring break and gave students two-day instructional breaks spread throughout the semester.
Fall break is scheduled for Oct. 14-15 and spring break is scheduled for March 14-18.
The university expects students to be able to return to its campuses after Thanksgiving break (Nov. 24-26) to complete the fall semester.
With more students and staff being vaccinated and other safety measures, the university says at least 75% of classes will be taught in person.
Classes with fewer than 50 students can take place in classrooms at full capacity while larger classes will take place at a 50% or 75% capacity, depending on the size.
When it comes to campus life, the university expects to include a wide range of events and gatherings for the fall semester.
Masks are expected to still be required indoors, but if the university can achieve a high vaccination rate and low COVID-19 positivity rate, they hope to remove mask requirements outdoors.
Students who get vaccinated will also not have to get tested for COVID-19 as often. Vaccinated students are expected to only be tested once a month or less, while unvaccinated students will be tested once or twice a week.
In most cases, the university says vaccinated students will not be required to quarantine if they are exposed to the virus.
As more people get vaccinated, the university will also have more flexibility for football games, events, programs and other gatherings.
