Ohio Medicaid veto discussion begins Thursday

If Republicans use their super majority and override the Governor's veto not to freeze Medicaid, 500,000 Ohioans could lose coverage.

It's showdown at the statehouse, and it's all within the Republican controlled legislature.

The battle lines involve the expansion of Medicaid.

Governor John Kasich vetoed a plan to freeze expansion. Republican lawmakers aren't happy.

Thursday discussions begin on how Republicans plan to proceed.

If they prevail, and overturn the Governor's veto, people who don't apply by July 1, 2018 will not receive coverage and those who fall off the rolls, and don't reapply will also be denied.

Kasich pushed for expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act and has spent time in Washington protesting cuts to the Medicaid program.

Should the Governor's veto survive, Ohioans age 19 to 64 with incomes at or below 138 percent of the poverty line would be able to apply.
