Gov. John Kasich has that ordered flags at public buildings and grounds in Ohio be flown at half-staff to honor the life of the late John Glenn.

Kasich on Friday ordered the flags lowered until sunset on the day of Glenn's burial.

Glenn died Thursday at a Columbus hospital surrounded by family.

Kasich said the flag-lowering was to honor Glenn's career as a U.S. Marine, test pilot, astronaut, U.S. Senator and "unparalleled American hero."

Burial is being planned for Arlington National Cemetery just outside Washington.

President Barack Obama on Friday also ordered flags on all federal buildings and ships around the world lowered to half-staff out of respect for Glenn.
