WEST JEFFERSON, Ohio — Newly released surveillance video shows a suspect firing a shot at a security guard inside an Amazon facility in Madison County on Sunday.
The suspect, identified by police as 22-year-old Hamsa Yusuf Ali, fired a semi-automatic handgun from within the facility on state Route 29. He was later shot and killed during a shootout with Columbus police where an officer was also injured.
Amazon says Ali, a security guard, was a contractor assigned to work at the facility by a third-party partner.
The surveillance video released Tuesday shows the moment Ali fired at his supervisor from close range and later shows him leaving the facility.

Video from a camera above the security desk shows Ali walking into the desk area where another security guard is sitting and looking at his phone. Ali is seen looking around before he pulls out a concealed handgun and points it at the man’s head who had his back turned to Ali.
The gun malfunctions and Ali is seen pulling it back down to recock it. He then points the gun at the man’s head again and fires it.
Gunfire can be seen in the video and the other security guard is seen getting out of the chair and looking backward toward Ali.
Ali and the guard are then seen running in opposite directions from the desk. Another camera angle shows the guard running through the warehouse area.
Ali is seen walking in the same direction to follow but then turns around and goes back out by the entrance to the facility. He is seen throwing his hands up, with a gun still in one hand, before using his badge to get back out of the facility’s security entrance.
Surveillance video from the parking lot then shows Ali walking through the parking lot in a tank top and pants.
The West Jefferson Police Department said at least one shot was from within the building. The facility was cleared and there were no reported injuries.
“We’re thankful that no one at our facility was injured during this incident and for the work of our team on the ground and first responders,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement.
The Columbus Division of Police was requested to assist with the shots fired situation at the Amazon fulfillment center and found Ali at Georgesville and Clime roads on the city's southwest side.
The encounter led to an exchange of gunfire between Ali and responding officers, according to Columbus police. Two outside agencies responded to the encounter as well.
A Columbus police officer was struck during the exchange and their vest caught the bullet, according to Columbus Fraternal Order of Police President Brian Steel. Ali was struck by gunfire as well, police said.
The officer was taken to Grant Medical Center and later released. The officer's name was not released.
The suspect was transported to Doctors Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:57 p.m.
