2 officers injured after vehicle hits police cruiser in northeast Columbus; driver cited for OVI

The accident report states that the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu ran a stop sign at the intersection.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two police officers were injured when a vehicle hit their cruiser in northeast Columbus Saturday evening.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, the crash happened at the corner of East 5th and Taylor avenues just after 8 p.m. Police said a vehicle struck the police cruiser, injuring both officers inside.

They were taken to Ohio State East Hospital for injuries and later released. Both officers are OK, according to police.

The accident report states that the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu ran a stop sign at the intersection.

The driver was issued a citation for a stop sign violation and was suspected of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to the report. 

Just two days prior, two other Columbus officers were injured when their cruiser was struck by a vehicle that did not stay on scene on West Broad Street and Marconi Boulevard. The officers' conditions were described as stable.
