Police release IDs of suspect, officers involved in shooting outside northeast Columbus pub

Mark Sharpe is charged with three counts of felonious assault.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police identified the suspect and the officers involved in a shooting outside a pub in northeast Columbus Saturday. 

Officers were dispatched to Joe’s Pub & Grill in the 4900 block of East Dublin Granville Road around 12:30 a.m. for reports of a man firing shots into the business. 

Officers confronted the man, who police identified as 39-year-old Mark Sharpe. Police say he had a gun and fired shots at the officers. 

Multiple officers returned fire, striking Sharpe. 

Sharpe was taken to the hospital in critical condition. No officers were hurt in the shooting. 

On Monday, police said Sharpe’s condition has improved and he is expected to survive his injuries. He is charged with three counts of felonious assault.

The officers involved in Saturday’s shooting were eight-year veteran Evan Romine and four-year veterans Tamer Khadre and Kenneth Sauer. 

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation into the shooting.
