One officer was sitting in a cruiser behind a disabled Honda Accord and another officer was inside the Honda when the crash occurred.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A police officer was injured early Sunday morning in northeast Columbus after a car crashed into a disabled vehicle that the officer was preparing to push out of the way.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, the crash happened as officers were clearing a crash scene at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Blendon Woods Boulevard around 1:40 a.m.

One officer was sitting in a cruiser behind a disabled Honda Accord and another officer was inside the Honda preparing it to be pushed from the intersection. Both vehicles were in the left turn lane of northbound Cleveland Avenue.

Police say that the driver of a Mercury Montego heading southbound on Cleveland Avenue, approaching Blendon Woods Boulevard, hit the front of the Honda.

The officer inside the Honda was taken to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in what police describe as stable condition. The driver and front seat passenger of the Mercury were both taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in "stable condition," according to police.

The crash is under investigation.
