ODOT plans to add roundabout on state Route 315 in Liberty Township to help alleviate traffic congestion

ODOT said they plan to build a small roundabout at the intersection of state Route 315 and Jewett Road.

OHIO, USA — The Ohio Department of Transportation is looking for public comment on their Jewett Road intersection safety improvements project.

ODOT said they plan to build a small roundabout at the intersection of state Route 315 and Jewett Road.

Neighbors in the area said the intersection is always busy and sometimes dangerous.

“Especially if you are trying to turn left down [Jewett Road] it’s almost impossible. People always have to let you out because there’s always traffic both ways and it's busy all the time,” said Greg Williams, who lives close to the intersection.

“We go left out of Jewett Road onto 315 daily, a couple times a day and it can be actually kind of scary,” said Diane Satterfield, who regularly travels on state Route 315.

Williams said rush hour in the morning and night makes it nearly impossible to travel down 315.

“It is frustrating. No matter even if you get out, you are still in traffic going either way,” he said.

Satterfield regularly travels on SR-315 for her job and said she worries about her safety.

“It’s like you have to take your life into your own hands to get onto that road when there’s tons of traffic going,” said Satterfield.

Hannah Salem, the public information officer at ODOT District 6, said the project has been in the works and gathering community feedback since 2020.

“At this location, we have seen a lot of angle crashes, T-bones and rear-end crashes. Roundabouts are known to reduce the number of those crashes,” said Salem.

The public comment period for the project goes until Aug. 18. Neighbors say the change is much needed.

“It’s a great area to live and be around. If they alleviate that traffic, it will be much better,” said Williams.

Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2026 and hopefully be completed by the summer of 2027.
