ODOT asking for driver input on southeast side expansion of US Route 33

Right now, there are two proposed plans for expansion.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Transportation is asking for drivers to give their thoughts about expanding U.S. Route 33 on the southeast side.

The proposed project would widen U.S. 33 from state Route 104 in Franklin County to Hill Diley Road in Fairfield County. The area is highly traveled with only two lanes in each direction through a decent stretch.

In 2003, that stretch along U.S. 33 saw roughly 34,000 vehicles per day. That number has increased to 54,000.

"Obviously, that is a steady incline. We're seeing a lot of growth and there is a need to enhance capacity in this area" said Morgan Eibel, a spokesperson with ODOT.

Right now, there are two proposed plans for expansion. The first plan involves expanding to the outside of the current road, and the other building on the inside.

"We've received a number of comments and a lot of them have been positive. People are definitely feeling like there needs to be some enhancement of US-33 in that general area. Congestion is a problem for commuters." said Eibel.

You can send your comments to ODOT about this for the next two weeks. For information on how to do that, click here.
