COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman is dead and two other people are injured after a two-vehicle crash in northeast Columbus early Tuesday morning, police said.
Around 12:55 a.m. officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the intersection of Woodland and East 17th avenues on a report of a crash with injuries. On the northeast side of the intersection, the officers found a 2005 Buick Century and a 2020 Ford Fusion that were severely damaged.
Surveillance video showed that before the crash, the Ford Fusion was heading north on Woodland Avenue toward the intersection and attempted to turn west on East 17th Avenue while the traffic light was red, according to police. The Fusion was then t-boned by the Buick Century, which was heading east on East 17th Avenue when the traffic light was green.
The driver of the Buick Century, who police said was a man, was taken to Grant Medical Center and his condition was described as stable.
The driver of the Ford Fusion, who police said was 34-year-old Markeesha Waddell, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extracted. She was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and later died at 1:43 a.m.
Another woman was a passenger in the red sedan and was also taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.
Police said the intersection will remain closed as detectives continue to investigate the crash.
