COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus resident Daquian Williams watched the violence unfold from the window of his home in Italian Village early Saturday morning.
“It was over 150, 200 people, running for their lives, bullets spraying everywhere. It was chaotic,” Williams said.
Three people were killed and three others injured after a shooting at 5th Avenue and Summit Street around 2:45 a.m., according to the Columbus Division of Police.
For Williams, the sights and sounds of the violence will stick with him.
“Bodies on the floor, blood, blood-curdling screams, people trampling over each other and like the chaos was so wild it was uncontrollable,” he said.
The victims were identified by police as 27-year-old Malachi Pee, 18-year-old Da’ondre Bullock and 26-year-old Garcia Dixon Jr.
Kelly Huguenard lives close by and says the neighborhood can get chaotic on weekends.
“Every weekend here, from I would say, 1 a.m. to 4 a.m., I'll hear the birds chirping and people are still outside,” she said.
Huguenard has been worried about the potential for violence.
“This has gone to a different level,” she said.
Police are still looking into what led up to the shooting and if it involved any nearby businesses.
No suspects have been identified.
Anyone with information or videos of the incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477 (TIPS).
