PLAIN CITY, Ohio — Nearly a year after a baby girl was found dead in the back of a garbage truck, the Plain City Division of Police announced authorities have not identified the girl's parents.
In June 2023, the baby girl was found by waste management workers in the back of their truck while making collections in Plain City. Police said the girl's umbilical court was still attached. City officials named her "Madison Baby Doe" and held a funeral for her.
Police released a statement on Wednesday saying the girls' parents have not been identified. Authorities used the Combined DNA Index System for comparison to the DNA profile of the baby girl, but it did not generate any investigative leads. The system links crimes to each other and identifies suspects by matching DNA from crime scenes to those convicted of offenses.
Despite not having any DNA matches, police say progress has been made in the case but wouldn't share any details.
"Disclosing further detail could compromise the investigation and undermine what headway has been achieved. We recognize the public concern in this matter and remain focused on achieving justice for Madison Baby Doe," Police Chief Dale McKee and Madison County Prosecutor Nicholas Adkins said in a joint release.
The Montgomery County Coroner's Office could not determine what caused the baby's death. The autopsy report noted several fractures and lacerations throughout her body. Dr. James Kaerh, the Madison County coroner, previously said several of the girl's injuries and abnormalities listed in the autopsy report could have caused her death, even if they were the only ones present.
Anyone with information regarding the girl's death is asked to contact Plain City police at 614-873-2921.
