COLUMBUS, Ohio — Seven new restaurants and bars will be opening in the University District and University Square areas near The Ohio State University this year.
According to a release from Campus Partners, the restaurants will give students, faculty, staff and neighbors more options for the food in the area.
Some of the establishments, such as Barrio Tacos, Root Natural Kitchen and Bubbles Tea & Juice Company, have already opened in the area.
“One thing is certain about the thousands of people who live, work and study within the University District and that is they like a variety of choices when it comes to food and beverages,” Matt Hansen, the president of Campus Partners, said in the release. “Adding seven new places to explore along the High Street corridor will provide something for everyone to enjoy.”
Some of the restaurants will open in the summer while others are set to open sometime later this year. You can find the full list of the new restaurants and bars below.
- Genghis Grill – 18 East 15th Avenue, opening May 2023
- Smashburger – 1840 North High Street, coming in 2023
- Dave’s Hot Chicken – 1828 North High Street, coming in 2023
- Root Natural Kitchen – now open

- Bubbles Tea & Juice Company – now open
- Mac Shack – 1619 North High Street, opening summer 2023
- Slammies on High – 1607 North High Street, opening March 3, 2023
- Auntie Anne’s/ Cinnabon – 1619 North High Street, opening summer 2023
