PICKERINGTON, Ohio – A new Pickerington police chief will be sworn in on Monday.

City manager Frank Wiseman announced this week that Commander Tod Cheney will be the new chief.

Cheney has been with the Pickerington police department since 1995.

During that time, he has served as a K9 officer, sergeant and was most recently named Commander in 2015.

“Commander Cheney has an outstanding record and impressive credentials. He is well known and respected in the community and we look forward to working with him in his new role as Chief of Police,” Wiseman said in a release.

Cheney will take over as chief after Michael Taylor decided to retire amid accusations he used racial slurs and sexist comments.
