New Holland controversy: Officials charged, officer fired

Three village officials are facing criminal charges, and the officer who filed those charges has been fired.

There is controversy in the village of New Holland, where three village officials are facing criminal charges, and the officer who filed those charges has been fired.

The village of 800 people straddles the Pickaway-Fayette county line.

Monday night New Holland Police Sergeant Brad Mick was fired, after filing charges against his Mayor, Police Chief and Former Police Chief.

Mick charged New Holland Interim Police Chief David Conrad with forgery, Mayor Butch Betzko with complicity to forgery, and former Chief Jason Lawless with dereliction of duty and telecommunications harassment.

In a statement, the attorney representing the Village said Mick "abused his position," and was pursuing a "personal agenda with these baseless charges."

The village also accuses him of violating "the established chain of command" and conducting "an improper search and destruction of Village property."

Mick released a statement saying: "My termination does not undo the criminal acts by others and it will not erase evidence or dismiss the charges. While it is disheartening and a violation of the law to be retaliated against and terminated for obeying the oath of office, it does not stop here."

An attorney for Chief David Conrad tells 10tv Conrad has not committed any crimes.

Former Chief Jason Lawless also denied any wrongdoing. 10TV was unable to reach Mayor Betzko for comment.
