COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police identified the 42-year-old woman who died after being shot at a shopping center on the city's northeast side on Sunday. A 60-year-old man was charged in the shooting.
Just after 4:35 p.m., officers were called to Pets Supplies Plus at 4886 Morse Rd. in the New Albany Square shopping center after receiving a report of a shooting.
Police said the shooting happened outside the pet store where officers found Kandi Henderson who was shot at least once.
Henderson was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead at 6:46 p.m.
Details on what led to the shooting were not provided, but police told 10TV that Henderson and the alleged gunman, Stephan Turner, were previously in a relationship.
Detectives received information about the suspect, Stephan Turner, from witnesses at the scene, according to records from Franklin County Municipal Court.
Court documents stated that a witness called police dispatchers and told them that Turner confessed that he shot Henderson. Another witness said that they saw Turner with a handgun on him.
Officers located Turner in the area of Lindenwald Drive and Belcross Drive shortly after the shooting.
Police said Columbus police SWAT officers and Turner were involved in a standoff. After a period of time, Turnter surrendered without incident and was taken into custody. No other injuries were reported.
Turner is charged with murder.
He appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court on Tuesday and was given a $1 million bond.
