NEW ALBANY, Ohio — Aline, 10, and Zoie, 11, are members at Franklin United Brethren Church in New Albany.
Their mother didn't feel comfortable sharing their last name.
The girls are like many other students learning online or doing schoolwork from home.
"I'm like a social person, so it's hard to do stuff online, but my teachers have been very flexible, I can print out homework," Zoie said.
For her sister, the lifestyle for school hasn't changed, but the amount of company she has all day has.
"I'm homeschooled, so it doesn't really change anything that my sister gets to be home with me," Aline said.
The girls said they wanted to use the extra free time they have to do something good and give back to the community.
Through church, they asked other members and are now asking community members to donate food items.
On Easter Sunday, the church held a drive-in style service. As cars pulled in, the girls collected the food items while wearing masks, gloves and keeping a safe distance.
They're now asking community members to donate in order for them to give the donations to the New Albany Food Pantry.
"At my school, there are certain people and kids who are offered discounted or free at lunch, but since we're out of school, they're probably not getting those meals," Zoie said.
They want to encourage people to put themselves in other peoples' shoes, especially now.
"If we were them, we'd want to be helped and it's really just the golden rule," Aline said.
A spokesperson for the New Albany Food Pantry said they did a personal exchange Wednesday of the few bags the girls had while keeping safe social distances.
However, 10TV is told they do need to follow safety guidelines and aren't accepting bulk donations right now.
Their advice is, if people want to donate to the girls, to drop the food off in the bin at the Franklin Church. 10TV is told that way, when they are able to collect again, they will be able to grab all of the food and use it.
